3.10. The storage battery is not recharged

On the car two sources of a current – the storage battery and the generator. The storage battery is used at start-up of the engine and for a food by an electric current by pressure 12 In a starter and other consumers at the idle engine. When the engine works, the basic source of a current – the generator – provides with an electric current all consumers, including ignition system, and charges the storage battery. If in a combination of devices the red lamp of the category of the storage battery (poses burns. 16 on fig. 1.12), means, a current does not arrive from the generator in an onboard network and the stock of energy of the storage battery is spent. This stock is limited and depends on capacity. If the storage battery has been charged completely, it is possible to reach to garage and without the generator, but to try to eliminate malfunction on a place is better.

 Electric equipment check  
1. Check up, whether the belt of a drive of the generator is torn off. If the belt is whole, check up its tension. Press a thumb a belt from above and look, how much it has caved in. If the deflection does not correspond to norm, adjust its tension (Adjustment of a tension and replacement of a belt of a drive of the water pump and the generator »in section 4"Engine"see«).

       GOOD ADVICE
To reach garage or the nearest shop of spare parts in the absence of a spare belt, it is possible instead of torn off to establish the ring which has been cut out from an old inner tube. If it was not possible to find time replacement to a belt, it is necessary to move on a tow as the same belt results the water pump further and at its absence the engine practically "will begin to boil" at once.

2. If a belt will pull normally, check up, whether has fused a corresponding safety lock. The arrangement of safety locks and their face values are specified in the present management (section 9 "Electric equipment" see), in the repair manual of the car, the separate electric scheme, on the case of the assembly block and on safety locks. If the safety lock has fused, replace it, start up the engine and check up, whether the lamp of the category of the accumulator has gone out. If the lamp has gone out, it is possible to continue movement.

       THE PREVENTION
Do not put the safety locks calculated on больший rated current: it can lead to damage of an electric equipment and even to a fire.

3. If the lamp of the category of the accumulator has not gone out, check up a wire going from the generator to «плюсовой» to the plug of the storage battery. Three wires are brought to it: thicker connects the storage battery to a starter, thin – with the generator and a control system of the engine. The wire can be torn off, broken off in isolation or have the oxidised or unreliable contacts. Eliminate malfunction and start up the engine. If there was a gymnastics current, it is possible to continue movement.
If after the accepted measures the category lamp continues to burn at the working engine the possible cause of defect is covered in the generator. The reasons can be a little and eliminate them better in the conditions of car-care centre or garage, and you need to hope that the energy stock in the storage battery will suffice, that them to reach.

       GOOD ADVICE
To lower current consumption at movement of the car with the faulty generator, whenever possible disconnect a radio receiver, superfluous devices of illumination, the heater fan etc.
Skilled motorists can to recommend check up a regulator of pressure of the generator. Work of a regulator of pressure consists in continuous automatic change of a current strength of excitation of the generator so that pressure of the generator was supported in the set limits at change of frequency of rotation and generator loading.

Check on the car. For check it is necessary to have the voltmeter of a direct current with a scale till 15-30 In a class of accuracy not worse 1,0. After 15 mines of work of the engine on average turns at the included headlights measure pressure between the plug «30» and weight of the generator. Pressure should be in limits 13,6–14,6 Century In the event that is observed regular недозаряд or the recharge of the storage battery and adjustable pressure does not keep within the specified limits, it is necessary to replace a pressure regulator.
For check of the regulator which has been removed from the generator, connect a control lamp 12 In to brushes. Submit pressure 12 In «+» on the plug, and «–» on "weight" щеткодержателя. Thus the control lamp should burn.
Then submit pressure 15–16 In – the lamp should go out. If the lamp burns in both cases, in a regulator with test; if does not burn in both cases or in a regulator there is a breakage, or not contact between brushes and conclusions of a regulator of pressure.
